Proverbs 2018 : Day Two

Yes, January 2nd brings us to our second day in the Book of Proverbs!
Chapter two again begins with “My son” so we might be tempted to think that this book is limited to young men and that women certainly need not apply.
Of course nothing could be further from the truth: Proverbs is a Book of Wisdom for all of God’s people where we will see a LOT of choices: We will see the wise King contrasted with the fool and we will see Lady Wisdom contrasted with the harlot. As we meditate on these passages we must always be conscious of which path we are choosing in our lives!

In Chapter two we are told again to treasure God’s commands and in verse ten we are given an interesting test for whether we have “inclined our ears to wisdom.”
Proverbs 10:10 “When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, 11 Discretion will preserve you;Understanding will keep you, 12 To deliver you from the way of evil“”

The test of whether we have wisdom in our hearts is whether the knowledge of God, all this stuff we are studying in Proverbs and the rest of Scripture, is pleasant to our soul.  Yes, it can be convicting at times and certainly inconvenient at others, but at bottom we should be delighting in what we learn.  Why is that important?  Because it delivers us from the way of evil and for the rest of this chapter King Solomon shows us an evil man and evil woman to illustrate what he means.    IF the Word of God is burdensome rather than pleasant you have let your guard down in the face of such evil!
Good things to meditate on in this New Year.
