Proverbs 2018

Proverbs 2018 : Day Eleven

Verse two today is very relevant in the season of Hollywood award ceremonies this year:  “When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.”

Of course the chapter begins with another abomination in the eyes of the Lord which is also very relevant for today:  “Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight.”

There is much wisdom in Proverbs with regard to finances and they  should be a real wake-up call for our nation. When I shared comments on this chapter three years ago, I mentioned that in my life time the national debt has grown from .25 Trillion to over 18 Trillion dollars which is an astounding 720% increase: In just my life time! It is now over $20 TRILLION which of course is a number that is hard to even imagine:  A trillion dollars is made up of a thousand billion, and of course each of them requires a thousand million, which when I was young was a LOT of money.

Our problem is that our first verse here tells us that such financial recklessness is an abomination to the Lord so our prayers must be that God would have mercy on our nation.

King Solomon does leave us with some encouragement near the end of chapter eleven for which we should be thankful.

“He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage. He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind, And the fool will be servant to the wise of heart. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.”
