Calling for the Lord’s Judgment on the sin of abortion

Here is the prayer that we use at Church of the King around the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision and I think it might be appropriate in the coming weeks as well.  I must give most of the credit to the Saints at Reformation Covenant for content of this prayer:

The Great Prayer “The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will receive my prayer.” Ps 6:9

This morning the great prayer will be our responsive praying of Psalm 10

Calling for the Lord’s Judgment on the sin of abortion:

Leader: Dearly beloved, in the book of Revelation we see that as the office-bearers of the Church proclaim the Word of God, and as the people of God pray for salvation, God is faithful and pours out fiery wrath upon His and their enemies on the earth.  Let us join together now in prayer, asking that God will pour out his wrath on those who shed innocent blood by murdering pre-born infants through the heinous sin of abortion, and also upon all those in alliance with them.  May God’s judgment be unto repentance for all those who engage in these wicked acts.  Let us pray.

People:  Why, O Jehovah, do you stand afar off?  Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? [v.1]

Leader:  Most Gracious Heavenly Father, for over 42 years our nation has sanctioned the execution of the innocent whose only ‘crime’ was their inconvenience as pre-born human beings.  Tens of millions have been slain in this holocaust as our civil leaders have sanctioned our nation’s descent into moral darkness.  Have mercy upon us, O Lord, and deliver us from this great evil.

People:  In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor; let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.  For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and
renounces Jehovah.  In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”    [v. 2-4]

Leader:  Father, our leaders have stepped outside your boundaries. They have exercised power which you have not given them, and they have licensed the greedy to exploit the weak and market their very lives.  They have thus subverted your law.  Have mercy upon us, for Jesus sake, and deliver us from such arrogance.

People:  His ways prosper at all times; your judgments are on high, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he puffs at them.  He says in his heart, “I shall not be moved; throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity.”  His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity. [v. 5-7]

Leader:  O Lord, an immeasurable amount of money has been made trafficking in unborn lives.  They have together all profited – the hospitals, the clinics, the doctors, the pharmaceutical companies and the politicians who have built their careers standing against your Holy Law.  Have mercy upon us, take not Your Holy Spirit from us, – destroy their power and deliver their wealth unto the righteous!

People:  He sits in ambush in the villages; in chiding places he murders the innocent.  His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless; he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket; he lurks that he may seize the poor; he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net. The helpless are crushed, sink down, and fall by his might.  He says in his heart, “God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.”   [v. 8-11]

Leader:  O Almighty God, the poor, the weak, the unprotected have so often been ambushed in the name of ‘rights’ and ‘privacy’.  But you, O Lord, know both evil men and their victims by name.  Have mercy upon us, in the name of Jesus, and stop the unrestrained assault upon children.  Destroy all those who murder in secret; exalt the righteous.

People:  Arise, O Jehovah; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted.  Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”?  But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless.  Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none.      [v. 12-15

Leader:  O merciful God, who wants not the death of a sinner, but rather that he should turn from his wickedness and live, and have revealed yourself as pardoning iniquity through your only Son; we ask you to have mercy upon the impenitent and unbelieving, especially upon all the abortion doctors and suppliers and staff who work in our country’s abortion mills.  Awaken in them by your Holy Spirit a deep sense of their sinfulness and peril.  Take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of your Word.  Make them to know and feel that there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby they must be saved, but only the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  And so bring them home and number them among your children that they may be yours forever; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end.

People: Jehovah is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land.  O Jehovah, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more. [v. 16-18]

Leader:  And now Father, protect those who, through their own frailty or through the temptations which encompass them, may be drawn into the council of evil men and tempted to the heinous sin of abortion.  Give them, we ask you, the direction and assistance of your Holy Spirit, that they may live not unto themselves, but unto Him that loves us and gave Himself for us.  Give them repentance and better minds.  Be merciful to all who are in such trouble; and do, the God of pity, minister to them according to their several necessities; for His sake who went about doing good, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ.  Amen.
