The Supreme Court and What to Do

It is a BIG day in the political world, so I guess it would be appropriate to comment on politics!  It actually comes at a good time because I wanted to share some messages from Pastor Voddie Baucham who many of you know from the Indoctrination video where he was quoted regarding government schools.  Pastor Baucham has done a four-part series on Romans 13:1-7 which is some of the best material on Christians and government that I have heard, and after thirty years of following this type of stuff, I am hard to impress!

I have provided links to these messages below and will have some tapes available at Church of the King on Sunday.  I would encourage everyone to listen to them at least once!

These messages are especially relevant for today:  With today’s Supreme Court decision the expansion of our federal government continues and we as Christians will have growing challenges in determining how to respond!  We need to make sure we are responding Biblically which is the focus of these messages.

At the same time there was also some good news and very bad news that will get little or no attention as rightly pointed out in two postings from Red State today.  These posts are interesting on two fronts:  First and foremost as the Republicans and conservatives around the nation decry the Supreme Court decision for expanding government, they are voting for and hailing as a victory a great expansion of our government in other areas as you can see here:  http://www.redstate.com/erick/2012/06/28/the-stupid-party-expands-government-again/ Justice Roberts is being attacked for joining with the liberals on the court in this decision, but perhaps he simply is making the point that we should get the government we vote for as he looks at the record of the vast majority of elected officials in BOTH parties:  In other words, the American people should be much more careful about who we send to Washington because it is not the Supreme Court’s primary job to reign them in.

This brings us to the second and more important point:  What do we do?  One of the best parts of the Baucham series is where he asks folks if they know who the president is and then whether they know who their local sheriff is, making the point that change and more importantly, our protection will come at the local level.  As you can see from this second Red State post, we did have some good news on that front this week in Oklahoma:  http://www.redstate.com/dhorowitz3/2012/06/27/the-simple-lesson-of-john-sullivan%E2%80%99s-defeat-in-ok-1/

My prayer will be that all of the complaining and frustration with ALL three branches of our federal government will soon be turned into this type of local solution all around our nation!  Again, I would encourage everyone to carefully consider what Pastor Baucham has to say and to make I Timothy chapter two a regular part of your Bible reading and mediation during this important election year.

In the Lamb,

John

We can all benefit by the series on Roman 13:1-7 that Pastor Baucham delivered last year.  Here are the links for that series:
